Sarah grew up in the Twin Cities area of Minnesota. She graduated in 2011 with her Associate of Science in Nursing degree from St. Catherine University in Minneapolis and then in 2014 with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Purdue University. She continued through Purdue University and completed the Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner program in 2017.

Sarah has over 10 years of experience in the medical field and has worked with patients of all ages in multiple different specialties. She has worked in pre-operative, post-anesthesia and outpatient surgery centers and has worked in home care with pediatric patients. She has also worked in oncology and hospice care.

Through her many years of experience in many different fields of medicine, she found her passion in holistic and functional medicine. She has extensive training, certification and experience in primary care, regenerative medicine (including stem cell and amniotic allograft injections), viscosupplementation, neuropathy and hormone optimization through bioidentical hormone replacement therapy.

In her free time, she enjoys cooking, hunting, fishing, camping, and being on the lake. Sarah’s been coming up to the Brainerd lakes area since she was a child to visit her family’s cabin. Sarah’s happy to have settled close to family and the lakes area. The Brainerd Lakes area has always been her second home and she’s excited to be able to serve the area one patient at a time.

Dr. Axness began his undergraduate studies at the University of Minnesota-Duluth. He also attended Northwestern Health Sciences University, where he completed courses in biochemistry.

Dr. Axness has had the privilege of working at several different clinics in the Twin Cities region, treating injuries for everyone ranging from babies to professional athletes. In 2011, Dr. Axness returned to Baxter and opened his practice, Axness Integrative Medicine, providing comprehensive treatments to naturally and safely relieve each patient’s physical, emotional, and neurological pain symptoms.

After suffering from several high school sports injuries including: a shoulder injury, golfer’s elbow, a concussion, as well as other minor aches and pains, Dr. Bunkers found he was always able to heal quickly and receive significant relief while being treated under chiropractic care.

This type of care kept him from missing significant time on the field and allowed him to remain active in sports. These experiences with chiropractic care are what inspired Dr. Bunkers to pursue his career as a Chiropractor.

Dr. Bunkers graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with his bachelor’s degree in Biology. He continued his education at Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa, where he earned his Doctorate in Chiropractic. While completing his Chiropractic degree, Dr. Bunkers became proficient in various adjusting techniques including Diversified, Gonstead, and Thompson. He also elected to receive additional training in Activator Methods, Flexion- Distraction and Advanced Soft Tissue to help patients of all ages with a variety of treatable conditions. While in school, Dr. Bunkers also worked as a teaching assistant in various courses including physical diagnosis, active and passive rehabilitative therapies, and neuromusculoskeletal diagnosis.

Dr. Bunkers loves providing chiropractic care to all ages and enjoys the interaction of helping patients achieve their optimum healing potential through chiropractic care. He looks forward to getting to know patients, learning about their conditions and seeing how they would benefit from chiropractic care. Outside of the office, you can find Dr. Bunkers almost always outdoors playing golf, biking, hunting, and spending time with his family.

Meredith Griffin, DPT - Physical Therapist

Meredith grew up on a cattle farm in central Minnesota as the youngest of 6 kids. Having grown up on a farm, she understands the debilitating effects of injury on lifestyle and family. Her first experience with physical therapy was watching one of her brother's complete shoulder exercises after a severe work injury that required skin grafting procedures. Through high school and her initial college years, although her interests became varied with musical performance, she continued to be drawn to Physical Therapy as the career field she belonged in.

In 2012, she graduated from Minnesota State- Mankato with a B.S. in Human Biology. She transferred to Andrews University to complete her Doctorate in Physical Therapy which she was awarded in 2015. Shortly after graduation, she began an orthopeadic clinical residency program which she completed December 2018. Finally, in April 2018 she was awarded a certification in lymphedema therapy.

Through her career thus far she has treated in multiple different settings including hospital, outpatient, home health, and long term care. She has also treated all ages from pediatric to geriatric. She particularly enjoys working with patients suffering from headaches, knee pain, swelling, and balance limitations. No matter the patient type or the setting, she's dedicated to providing quality PT that will allow each patient to achieve their goals. She finds that she learns something new from each patient she works with and loves to see the wide-eyed amazement when a patient is able to move a body part freely for the first time in weeks, months, or years.

Emma completed her Physical Therapist Assistant degree at Lake Superior College in Duluth, MN in May of 2018.

Growing up in the beautiful Brainerd Lakes Area, Emma moved back to her hometown after graduation and began her career working at Axness Integrative Medicine. Playing high school and collegiate soccer, Emma understands the value of physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle.

Emma became interested in Physical Therapy after having therapy herself for many years due to multiple sports injuries. Seeing the positive impact that physical therapy can have, Emma strives to achieve this with each patient. Emma enjoys connecting with people, learning their story, and helping them get back into a lifestyle they deserve.

In her free time, Emma loves being outdoors with her dogs and family. Hunting and fishing are her two main activities, but she also likes to hike, bike, kayak and camp.
